IRIB hosted one of the most significant events in Earth sciences’ field attending young scientists from all over the world. 4th YES congress was held on 27-30 Aug  2017 in Tehran, with the slogan “Mitigating Geohazard and Resources for future generation “at GSI.

Regarding that, 2009 named Planet Earth Year by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) which aims to reserve the earth and resources. IYPE aims to ensure greater and more effective use by society of the knowledge accumulated by the world’s 400,000 Earth scientists. The Year’s ultimate goal of helping to build safer, healthier and wealthier societies around the globe is expressed in the Year’s subtitle ‘Earth Science for Society’. One of the most significant outcomes of IYPE was initiating international Young Earth Scientists network. More than 10000 members below 35 years old from 120 developing and developed countries have joined this network. This network aims to promote the culture of earth sciences and human adaptations with the Earth, that Iranian interested and qualified young geoscientist are the main members of it. Despite that young (below 35 years old) were the main addressee of this event, there was no age limitation for attendance.  After post-conflict and lifting sanctions, holding this congress provided a suitable opportunity for exchanging technical knowledge in international situation, investment, joint international projects, employment and cooperation between organizations. 4th YES congress held with the aim of education, recognition, social responsibilities, sustainable development and promoting life quality, The other remarkable goals of this congress can be the exchange and communication between Iranian youth and other countries in the field of geosciences, recognizing potential and the abilities of active youth, introducing Iranian culture, Geotourism and natural resources, exploration, employment opportunities and investment for youth.
This congress included seven themes as:
1. Earth Sciences for Society (Ministry of Education)
2- Geology and Mineral Resources (Iran Mining House)
3. Applied Geology (Rega Zamin Sakht Company)
4. Petroleum (Exploration Directorate of National Iranian Oil Company)
5. Climate changes and Hydrogeology (Applied geosciences research center)
6. Geological and Natural Disasters (Research Institute for Earth Sciences)
7. Geological Heritage (National Geosciences Databases of Iran)
Workshops, field trips (geology, oil and minerals), exhibitions,  scientific competition includes :2017 superior geoscientist , photos, books, articles and geological maps were the side programs. Excursions include: Alborz, Qom and Central Iran and the Angouran lead and zinc Mine were predicted as a side program of this congress, but none of them reach the final stage. Global geochemical mapping workshop held both in theoretical and practical parts with the presence of the Greek teacher and his Chinese assistant from the IUGS. Several speakers from Greece, Germany and France also lectured at the congress ceremony.There were nearly 500 attendees at the congress, more than 80 scientists from 31 countries sent papers and registered. Unfortunately, most of them  didn’t attend because of some financial problems. 6 of them were from China, one from France, three from Germany, one from Greece and one from Turkey. It should be mentioned the three previous congresses held in China, Australia and Tanzania, and Germany will host the fifth congress. Also it should be noted that the flag of congress were awarded to representatives of the Germany during the closing ceremony. At the end of the ceremony the photographers were also honored with the atlas of geotourism. 500 international participants - 48 oral peresentation - 95 posters - a totaly150 articles can be mentioned the consequences of this congress.Opening and closing schedule were:At the opening ceremony, after welcoming the secretary-general of the congress, Dr. Ghorashi, Dr. Najafi introduced the GSI and its achievements, then it was followed by  lecture of YES network chairman from China about the purposes of this network and its plans. The next keynote speaker was Professor Demitriades which present a lecture on the Commission of Global Geochemical Maps. The next lecturer was, Ms. Laroche, Secretary General of the UNESCO Regional Office in Tehran, Ms. Gazani, Secretary of the Science Committee of National Commission UNESCO, Dr. Arash Sharifi from University of Miami, Dr. Dr. Seyed Ziaedin Shafahi Tonekaboni from Tehran University, and Romain Bousquet from the University of Poznan, Germany, Shahram Khani from the National Oil Company of Iran were the other lecturer.
